Benchmark #5: Students developed an outline for their research paper.
1. We allowed students to choose the way in which they wanted to outline their paper. We provided examples of different outline styles and reviewed the strengths and weaknesses of each. The requirements for the outline included:
The outline must show:
* Structure of your paper
* Relationship(s) of one idea to another
* Connection(s) to the thesis statement
Some Outline Options:
* Detailed Outline (parallel structure or point by point)
* Graphic Organizer
* Web
* Something similar to your Banned Books Essay Outline

Author Reflections
If the students thoroughly completed the "Arguments and Evidence" benchmark, they used that as their outline. Some students were resisant to this step because they like to "just write," but we forced them to do this anyway!
