ACTIVITY: Benchmark #7: Experimental and Data Collection Design
SUMMARY
Goals
Students design experiments to test their myth
Details
Duration: N/A
Assessments: Other (enter below)
Additional Assessment Type: Scientific Experimental Design
Materials: Experimental/Data Design Templates (see Activity Resources)
Description
In this activity, students design their experiments and what type of data they will collect for mathematical analysis. This is pretty standard experimental design with controlled and responding variables. One important point to stress is the concept of multiple trials of the experiment, which helps to provide more data for analysis.
Each person in the group is responsible for designing at least one experiment to test the group myth. The group may not use all of the experimental designs but this ensures that all group members gain this important skill.

REFLECTIONS & COMMENTS
Author Reflections
Getting every group member to design a unique experiment can be challenging. Make sure that students understand that this is part of thier individual grade on the project.
