REFLECTIONS & COMMENTS

Author Reflections

Some students really developed their research skills through this activity. They become used to a culture of independent inquiry, as well, when it is a routine. Make sure you have the resources if you are required them to use the internet; I just made sure they knew I was staying after school on the days I assigned these, so if they wanted to, they could get it done before they went home. If this is a early-in-the-year project, make sure that you teach google tips, etc, as giving them a personal inquiry task without context leaves the class divided between students who are computer literate and those who are not. Those who are not will fall behind quickly, but if they are supported, they will learn a lot and you will learn a lot about their minds.
