Description

Once students were in groups of 3-5 with a scene and a general concept chosen, they worked over the course of about 2 weeks to write a translated script of their scene, create a production plan, draw a storyboard of their video, rehearse their scene and memorize their lines. Groups that worked well together divided up the tasks so that one person was leading the script-writing process while another was completing the production plan and another was completing the storyboard. I provided students with a jobs sign up, a check list of tasks, a detailed production plan worksheet and a storyboard organizer (all these resources are below.) In addition, I created a collaboration self-evaluation sheet that each student completed each day that the group worked together to keep track of their group work skills. I had students complete the section for that day in the last 5 minutes of class each day. This was factored into their leadership skills grade at the end of the project. They kept all of the materials associated with the project in one folder for the group that stayed in the classroom.

REFLECTIONS & COMMENTS

Author Reflections

One thing that was a bit logistically difficult about this section of the project was getting copies of all the necessary scripts at the appropriate time. First of all, I had to make sure that I had enough copies of the original scene from the Tempest for each member of each group. Then, once students had finished their translations, we needed to make copies of the new scene for each group member so that they could take home thier scripts and memorize their lines. Often, this would happen in the middle of a class period so I would have to send a student out to the office to get the scene copied. Unfortunately, this happened at a different moment for each group, so I think I slightly overwhelmed the office manager with students requesting to copy things in the middle of class. It would be very useful to have a copy machine close by.
