ACTIVITY: Greenbacks or Greenspace: Recommendations
Project: Greenbacks or Greenspace: Decisions about San Francisco Land Use (IMP 3)
SUMMARY
Goals
The goal of this activity is for students to draft the third section of the written proposal: the Recommendation.
Details
Duration: 60 minutes
Assessments: Student reflections/journals, Student writing, Mathematical proof
Description
Students need to analyze their results and determine the most cost effective solution. They also need to do some reflection and write about how they would allocate the land based on the needs of San Francisco.
The recommendation section must describe:
* how the land should be allocated based on the given constraints and what the cost to the city will be
* a justification of your recommendation
* An alternate solution of how you would allocate the land based on your opinion of what is needed in San Francisco (only the amount of land applies)
* Evidence to support this allocation even thought it might not be most cost-effective

REFLECTIONS & COMMENTS
Author Reflections
This was the easiest part for me. Since, I had been fairly in touch with the work students were doing so far, I knew the types of errors that were occuring in student work. It was also really accessible for students because they got to make a commentary on where San Francisco's needs were--whether there should be more recreation or more development. I would love to elaborate on this part and work with science to develop this into more of an environmental justice project--it definitely has potential for that.
