SUMMARY

Duration: 120 minutes
Assessments: Student discussions
Description
Simply getting the project completed and polished was not enough. The actual culminating assessment of this project was the presentation of the project and associated activities to an audience. Groups presented to their fellow block-mates as well as another English class. The presentations were supposed to be exhibition worthy.
A week prior to the presentation dates, students received the rubric by which they would be assessed (by their peers and their teachers). We went over the rubric as an entire class and clarified any point of confusion. Because this was the final unit of the year, the students had been exposed to many versions of a presentation rubric in the months prior.
Groups were asked to rehearse the class session before the presentation day and use the rubric to look for holes or gaps in their presentation.

REFLECTIONS & COMMENTS
Author Reflections
Ideally, we really wanted students to do dress rehearsals as a last benchmark, and those who did not achieve a basic level of proficiency would not be allowed to present during the first round of presentations. However, because this was the last unit time simply ran out on us, and so all groups presented. Because of this, some groups got up in front of the audience despite being clearly unprepared.
