Learning Objectives:

o To introduce basic acting and improvisational techniques
o To define and differentiate between high and low status roles in Shakespeare

A professional actress and director conduted hands-on activities with students to teach them the basics of stage performance and technique. We did have the use of an actual theatre and stage as well. Our guest began with the basics, then taught some improvizational techniques, and transitioned smoothly to status roles. Students practiced their "status" using varying body language, gestures, and speech. She then discussed Shakespeare's use of high and low status.
