AUTHOR REFLECTIONS
First of all, one of the best things about the project is a relatively clear end-product: a Mythbusters episode. Most students have seen Mythbusters and may even be fans of the show which was the case at MSAT. Originally, we planned for the exhibition to be an 8-10 minute video episode for each group. Part way through the project, we decided to have them present it as a live performance with video supporting the parts that could not be presented on stage. This made for a more entertaining and interactive exhibition.
Mythbusters Project
Thanks for sharing your great project ideas. I do a similar project with 8th grade students as a review of the scientific method. Like you, I show them a clip from a Mythbusters show, and I also show them the Consumer Reports website and magazine. We talk about consumer confidence and how advertisements can persuade us to buy a particular product. They hopefully gain an understanding of some of the types of jobs scientists do in addition to learning the scientific method. Your project has given me further "food for thought", and I thank you!
