Description
Students create metaphors for this simple machine, by listing qualities of it, then naming other things that share those qualities, and finally making poetic comparisons without using "like", "as", or other literal language. They share their rationale in class discussion. Total time for warm up: 15-20 minutes.
EXAMPLE: A breakup is a slingshot.
